Pre-Production
Writing (The Pitch)
The pitch must be visual description of the story/film/doco. Dont be confused with techical info and equipment. The pitch must have intresting events and great CHARACTER. It should be under 2 to 4 minutes. Also a pitch is VERBAL. Yet you have to write it down, so when you finish it read it loud so to know if it works.
Writing (Treatment)
Every funder will want to SEE your story. A treatment is written description of your visuals, use a lot of adjectives adn adverbs to express what you will show.
It should say about the MOOD of the project. You need to get your funder/sponser excited (be careful with your words-dont go over board- even if the story is sad and depressing.
Dont bedirect and obvious. Be a pro..Example dont say you have this fantastic old photo of a gold miner, just describe/incooperate it as if its part of the story.
No longer than 2-4 pages. The story takes pririty over the character (not always-most of the time).
Dont introduce more than 3 characters. It can become confusing/to follow. Write down all the things about the character can do, positive and negetive, its features etc and when you are writing that will help fill/connect the dots.
You dont have to be 100% correct/precise, most funders know the biger picture/production can be fluid.
Writting (Documentary Script)
Sometimes very similar to fiction story telling/writting. depending on the project it can have 2 to 4 column screenplay style. (Visual, Sound/narration adn ones own comments). Personally i prefer this option, since I also do some of my own Editing..makes it so much easier to ref back.
If the editer is not yourself then they will thank you for it. In some situations you can also have a column for TIMECODE as well.
